What kind of fish is this?
Hi I got these four fish from petland discounts today and they said they where checkerboard something.... I should've wrote it down... Maybe someone can help me...

looks like a young scissortail barb/tetra to me, these guys get pretty big, ive seen them at about 4-5 inches, you shouldnt be putting them in bags and making them lay down just to take pictures, you could harm the fish.

It is a barb not a tetra.
A tetra would have a small fin on it's back between the dorsal and the tail, called the adipose fin.
This fish does not appear to have this fin.

Thank you I looked up scissortail barb on here and it looks exactly like him! I'm sorry I will never put them in a bag to take pictures again. But thanks again!

it looks alot like a scissortail rasbora also
im actully 98% sure that it is

i belive there is no such thing as a scissor tail barb now i think about it, i do think its a scissortail rasbora same as cody , about 90% certain it is

I thought rasbora when I saw it as well, due to the shape of the body.

There is such a thing as a scissor-tail barb, but that is the downside of non-latin names...
In the hobby many people use "barb" and "rasbora" interchangeably for uncommon cypranids from southeast Asia. They are two very closely related groups of fish and the fishtrade has a habit of using whichever sounds better rather than the actual identification of the fish. It is kinda like using 'wolf' and 'dog' interchangeably.

is there other common names for scissortail barbs, i dont think iv ever seen them, i though it was a rasbora when i saw it but i had to double check , i hate giviing false info
