I'll try to get a better picture... it doesnt have any spots or mottling like the pictures I've seen of the Ancistrus tamboensis species... I thought that maybe it was a medusa bristlenose but it is definately dark brown, not black. I just wanted to give him the most balanced diet... as medusas eat more meaty diets.

http://www.masns.ca/forum/showthread.php?tid=1506 I found him! If this identification is right, he's a Anicstrus tiriadatus

yes... but so does this guy... http://www.planetcatfish.com/catelog...pecies_id=1481... it's hard to tell... I need something definate like number of spines on the dorsal fin, abdominal scales, or something... all I can find is crummy pictures and vague descriptions. I am assume it is the first one though because it is more popular it looks like.

Looks like the lasiancistrus sp. we have here.
To my knowledge, they are undescribed.
Until this past month, I had only seen them thru one shop here in Tennessee, who had them mis identified as L45.
While at the ACA's last month, someone I know bought a trio at the auction.
Theywere told they cam from Brazil, which reinforces that they are probably lasiancistrus.

These are what Dino is referring to. At the time the thread was posted we thought they were L45 as they were sold to Dino. After much research we found out this was an impossibility.
Look what folowed me home from Dinos fish house.....

ooooooo cool he is a great pleco, he's done a great job cleaning my decorations and my powerhead is spotless. And he's really is kinda cute. So does that mean that he is not a bristlenose pleco?

Yes, it is a bristlenose pleco.
Ancistrus is the subfamily that covers all bristlenose catfish.
Lasiancistrus is a genus, one of several, of the subfamily ancistrus.

I'll throw in a guess too!

How old is your pleco? I'm wondering, judging from the top view pic, if he could be a Medusa (Ancistrus ranunculus)?

Sorry, it is not a medusa.
Body shape is wrong as well as the bristles are only biforked in the center of the face ( on the one here) vs all bristles forked ( on ranunculus).

As well, rununculus have bristles only on the mouth rim, while the one pictured here has bristles that bisect the face between the eye orbits.
