Tiger barb.
Rainbow shark.
Both are from Asia.
The barb does best in schools.
The shark does best one to a tank.
The shark also needs a place to hide during the day.

The first is called a tiger barb and I believe the second is a rainbow shark.

tiger barbs (especially in smaller numbers) are bigtime fin nippers, and are likely a bad choice to go with some of those other fish... particularly a clumsy swimmer like an angel.
rainbow sharks get up to 7" and are described as 'scrappy' with a tendency to go after smaller fish.
i'm not positive, but i think a bala shark needs a huge tank, and a few buddies.
goodness!! guess i better buy something for the tiger barbs now..so much for me being the rescuer..now i need to be rescued!
i was reading about balas, and 3 (the suggested minimum) require at least 75g all to themselves...

Hi Shawnie
I would worry about your Betta being in that tank before Id worry about the tiger barbs. Your betta is going to be in trouble...
I would hate to think his fins are going to get nipped by the barbs or even the shark.

Yeah I suggest getting your Betta his own tank. Betta rarely can live with other fish without problems.

I disagree.
I have male bettas with other species here.
( Platies, bristlenose catfish, cherry shrimp, brochis, coolie loaches)

I had terrible tiger barbs in my tank.. they would go after anything and everything. Dont know why.. just seemed like a bad.. mad.. bunch. Even killed a few of each other during battles. Thats why I mentioned the Betta and the tiger barbs.
I actually had my male in the community with platy and mollies a long time ago and they were all fine together. The only problem I had, which resulted in my getting my Betta his own tank was that I had two Gourami's in with it. I have since learned that Bettas and Gouramis do not mix. I also at one time had a female betta in the community tank and she was fine as well.

Hi Hssea
I also had a large school of them. This bunch I mentioned.. well it was just plain ole strange! I had a few of them out of the group that were out of their minds with aggression.. just lil ol stinkers who bothered everyone. Didnt matter what tank I ended up putting them in or with who. Just one of those things. I had another group long before those as well, who were not half bad at all. Just one of those things...cant contribute it to anything ..just was.
BTW, I think they are beautiful fish and full of personality. Good luck with yours!

All of these except the platies seem to fit.
One LFS has their bettas in with the other fish (one per tank, except for one recent messup on a day when they received a shipment), and the two platy tanks that had bettas are usually having problems. Either the betta's fins are chewed ragged, or the betta is bullying the platies.
Not saying it can't be done, but from what I've seen, it's difficult to do.

Hi shawnie..
Great idea with the tank divider! Your betta knows that they cant get to him now lol... Im sure your angel's fins will grow back. Just be kinda choppy looking for awhile. Some here recommend the vita-chem for things like that. Or you can get a skin protector, Mardel has a product out like that and I have used it. It has aloe vera in it too, if the nipped fins arent too bad you can try something like that.
