| It might be a dalmation molly, but I'm not sure. I'll move this thread to the Fish ID section to get our members best at ID'ing mystery fish on it. |

| Acctually NO. That is not molly. The tail on my fish is rounded.
Dolmation molly has a sharp edges and specs are mixed up messy.
My fish's body looks like platy/moly/sword - all together.
The black specks are very tiny and they are all in the straight rows along the body, bright black. End of tail fin is clear. |

| Hi Gnome,
I was looking through my great book of photo and ID's of fish and it looks like your fish is a member of the Goodeidae ( Goodeid) family. They do look like platies and mollies, but they have that straight lined tail yours has. Which type it is, not clear.... ~ kate |

<<Goodeidae ( Goodeid) family>> - may I have some information on those guys?
Couldn't find through the internet, probably not a common fish.
Is it cool water or tropical? pH?
What the max size?
Agressive or not? (mine is little bit)
Schooling or can be kept alone? |

| Hi Gnome
I typed in Goodeid fish in a Google search and came up with lots of hits with information and photos as well. Did you try using Google to search it?
They do show aggressive fin nipping qualities in most of the species, tho some are alittle more tolerant of tank mates. One site decribed them as mottled in color, which can be yours with the spots on it. http://www.gsas.org/Articles/1997/Ameca-sanford.html try this site for information ... good luck! | I think that's a pretty good possibility. That fish does look a lot like our female Ameca Splendens, so another Goodeid would be more likely than a dalmation molly. |

| Thanks guys,
I'm prety sure my fish is Goodeid and he is male, as info says : because they have the anal fin's front part split off and transformed to a blunt.
Now what I'm gonna do with him? |

Can you not return it to your LFS since you didn't want it in the first place? |

| Sabi, I can't return the fish, even if I would like to, because I do not want to drive 150 km :-) back.
I live out of town and we did purchase fish in closest big city during our shopping trip.
I will keep it and take care of it for sure. Just would like to know all habits of that fish. It is still small and good so far ( little bit aggressive, but not terrible).
I was searching through internet ( using Yahoo as main browser) and not too many info came for that fish, at least haven't seen a good pictures.
I had a few links on-line tropical fish encyclopedias, but nothing about that fish. What is rarely stranger!! |

| Yea, I'd want to keep her too. I love our Ameca Splendens trio. They're fun fish and our first goodeids. |

" happy reading" ~ kate | I guess I'm still confused. I went through the webpage and my stranger looks similar BUT!!! has a gonopodium - long, tube shaped fin. ( like male guppies have)
On the fish images from abovementioned site - all fins on the goodies look more round shape.
I will have to take better picture of him. |

| Well not all dalmations have pointed edges...lyre tails...the tips on the ends of their tails.
Only a select number have the tips on them. Although I believe that the round tail is a recessive gene, it might not have it yet, some get their tips later than others. |

| hi swords.. that may be true, but the photo that gnome posted IMO is not a dalmation molly. Ive had them as well, and they did not look like that. ~ kate |

| Ya I'm not sure what it is, but I was just telling them that not all mollies develop the lyre tails at a young age if at all.
I'm lost as to what this is. I don't think it would be a pure strained livebearer, because I've had experience with many different kinds and haven't seen anything like this. |

| I was trying to make a pics, but fish is too fast. He doesn't waste any time, eats-eats and eats. Picking from the plants.
I'm sure it is a livebearer and not full grown yet.
Looks like cross between guppy and platy with grey-blue color.
Will wait until it's full grown then probably find out what is that. |
