Is this what I think it is? I am sure it's an axolotl male, near full size, but the pet shop owner wasn't sure about it. I liked them so much that I bought the pair!
Yup they look like axolotl to me...we have albino ones at our favorite lfs. They creep me out. You can let them turn amphibian by let them out of the water.

actually if it's a true axolotl no, it won't it'll die. This species fail to morph into the amphibian relative (in most axolotl cases, it's related to the tiger salamander) and remains gilled throughout it's life

Yeah, I was pretty sure that it was, but you have all confirmed my thoughts, thank you all. I am convinced that they are axolotls because apparently they have already had one sporn. Guess I may have some different fry to show soon!...lol
After researching these facinating creatures, I am sure that we will be able to give them a great home, as long as I can keep the temperature in their tank down! (Always a problem in such a warm room as we have here!)
They are feeding well and the female seems to be in the process of re-growing a leg that is missing. I can't believe my luck to find these two in such good condition. With luck we should be able to breed them quite easily, so keep an eye on the fry gallery!
For those interested in seeing more of these facinating creatures, my webcam has been set up to display their tank, and can be viewed on Yahoo messenger under tetratim. Feel free to come and see!
i woudnt be able to have one of those..lizards, snakes, spiders, and most frongs scared the crap out of me...african dwarfs are the only thing you can get me to keep out of all of those
