What fish?

Ok, please don't think I'm dense by not having a picture of this fish, but I saw it at a fish store today and cannot remember the name of it to do some research. I know what it looks like... they were black and white, a longish fish that can possibly grow up to 12". Good to keep with community fish, they are very lazy (there was one LAYING on the bottom of the tank... you could see the gills moving regularly and not struggling), they can swim backwards and to me they looked like someone spiked their tank water with some alcohol, swimming on their sides and such. The owner assured me that this is typical behavior. They like densely planted tanks.

If anyone has ANY idea what kind of fish this may be... please post it. I'll search for pics in the mean time to see if I can figure it out.

EDIT: I just remembered another thing the guy told me... that they have poor eye sight.

Was it a pleco?

definately not. This fish was way more narrow than a pleco... I have one of those, so I know what they look like.

Could it maybe be chinese algae eater? It all sounds like one until you say it can swim backwards and on it's side. The only fish I can think of that does that would be a clown loach.

I saw some clown loaches while I was there, but no, it wasn't them. It was a beautiful fish, and it was pretty expensive (to me anyway), it was like $15.00, black with some white on it.

Than I would have to say that it is a black ghost knife.

That could be it! I've been thinking that I just need to go back to the store and bring my camera and a pen with me to write down the name and take a pic. I've never seen one of these before. They're very pretty.

Yep... that's gotta be them, I found another website that says that they "lay" around during the day, and have poor eyesight.

Thank you for posting that video!

How are they with the other fish in your tank? I've read different accounts, and the guy at the LFS said that they're good in a community tank, but I'm finding conflicting info.
