What kind of silver dollar are these?
I've had regular silver dollars in the past and still have (1 ) old guy left. I bought (2) new silver dollars and they've grown very quickly (frozen blood worm cubes) and are now nearly as big as my old guy (approx 5-6" circ) The difference is these new guys have black fins. I've looked on the net and found there is a black barbed Silver Dollar but was unable to find any pics. Does anyone know exactly what kind they are and why they (who breed CONSTANTLY!) won't let the old guy in on the action. Any input greatly appreciated....Tiffany
***The old guy (red tail) has taken over the female. I still don't know what the blk tails are,,but at least they've come to terms with them all being Silver Dollars*****
+++UpDate+++ 1st pic new guy w/blk fins...2nd pic old guy w/red fins

Not a Pacu, they resemble a red bellied pirhana when young. Plus they have a thick body. My guess would be a regular silver dollar, do you have pics of the other one?

These are the only kind of silver dollars I could find
http://www.aqualandpetsplus.com/Tetr...r%20Dollar.htm
Doesn't look like yours at all. I would suggest you have been sold a juvenile Pacu, especially since it's growing so fast. The silver dollars and Pacu need a significant amount of grens in their diet.

Thank you for the input,,nope didn't see mine,but I do like those red hooks. They are all breeding now (well the older red finned big guy kinda took over the female), I'm thinking I have (2) males and (1) female (unless of course they are just going thru the motions and don't know who's who). I haven't seen any eggs,but it's hard 'cause they are fast and skiddish. Would the pacu breed w/the silver dollar? I had (2) red bellied pacu when I was 15-16'ish. They love to chew their food (feeder fish)

No don't think pacu and silver dollars will interbreed.

How big are they? I would doubt the sexual maturity of a pacu at less than 10 inches.

These (2) new guys (blk fins) are definately 4" pushing 5" and still growing from 2" (6) months ago. I'm not sure about sexual maturity,,but the blk fins have been breeding together for the last month. The red fin is still a bit bigger but definately thicker( and older,like 2yrs) and pretty much took the female and now for the last week has been breeding with the female. I read the gestation was (3) days...? So I've been looking for fry and haven't seen anyone. The fish do pick clean the bottom and the eel, the birchir and the iredescent shark get all the dropping from the bloodworms chunks being chewed at the time of feeding,,so they may be having "Caviar"

LoL, that's how my family used to get along. I miss that. Now, only every once in a while do I make my mom n sis laugh with my work related stories. Like this other day a lady comes to our office asking about some stakes that had gone bad (i work inventory control). When all was said and done, this other guy that works there walks in and asked what her problem was. I explained she was upset about having to reorder the stakes for the restaurants since they had gone bad. His reply was, "But that was the other day!"

"Umm, Mike!" I said, "I don't know about you, but, I'm pretty sure that if those stakes were bad a few days ago, they haven't gotten any better since then." He called me an A** H*L*. My boss, who was in the office for this all, almost fell out of his chair laughing at how sarcastically I answered!
And that's how I usually entertain myself!

LoL, big spender indeed! And the time shouldn't catch up all at once. I know that the same thing happened to me also. The pause wouldn't stick sometimes. I don't know why.
