Any ideas about this little guy?
I've been trying to get a decent picture of this little guy for a few months now, he kept getting in the way when I was trying to get one of my cories heh. We've had this guy for a few years now, my father only recalls having cardinals, neons, panda cories and zebra danios. All my father's fish came from the same guy and he firmly believes he's never sold anything that fits the description and has tried his best to help us figure it out with no luck (after we looked through all his books I started bringing in library books heh).
The little guy (we've just started calling him Goldie instead of "the other one") has always been very timid and only came out for viewing when our old zebra danio (my newer, eviler zebras ended up killing him) would chase him out of hiding when it was time to eat. He gets along great with my cories - if they are in the back he'll come out of hiding and hover around them. I'd perfer to more of his kind than risk going with differant fish that might end up picking on him (I was going with zebras but they're staying in the 10g - very evil little fishies! heh).
My father thinks he's probably a tetra, my mother thinks he looks more like some kind of rasbora and I'm just going to say he's some kind of tropical fish.

Is it possible you've bred a hybrid without knowing? (honest question)

Figure's he might turn out to be a she. I always yell at my cousins when they call my cats girls and I can't even get my favorite fish's gender right! sheesh heh. I was just about to get a very nice picture of 'it' (was actually in the front, yay!) but 'it' decided now would be a nice time to check out the cave. Hopefully I can get some tomorrow.
Afraid I've checked the site a few times but it could be because I'm still rather new to fish keeping I haven't developed an eye for identifying - 'it' doesn't look anything like a tetra or rasbora to me but that doesn't mean much.
I don't recall ever having any babies but I suppose its possible. That could explain the trouble we've been having ^^;

Does it have a tiny little fin between the top fin (dorsal) and the tail (caudal)? if it does it is a tetra of some kind.
Chances of a better pic?

It looks like a tetra to me...possibly a glow light or silver tip.

I have to say I find it a little funny - I don't care much for tetras but as much as I love my cories, Goldie has been my favorite since I confiscated my father's tank.
With glowlight tetras, even with the few other varieties do they still school or shoal (still a little unclear about the difference) as long as they are glowlights? If I can find a place that has 'em I'd like to have 8 or 9.
Thanks a lot everyone! Its not much better but you can see his fins a little better.

Much better picture! It definately looks like a tetra in this picture. He/she is very nice looking too!
If it is a "Glo-light" it will have, or should have, a clear body with a bright neon red/orange stripe running from the nose into the tail. Glowlight Tetras, as well as most tetras, are a schooling fish and will do best if kept numbers of 5 or more.

That's a silver tip tetra...we had 6 of them and they are nasty in groups...but only with themselves

He's pretty much all orange/gold save for a tiny bit of black at his tail but I can't make out if there is any silver on his fins or not. I have to say he (er - she?) looks closer to the silver tip than anything else I've seen. Is it possible that the coloring on the fins fade with age or with stress (ony a zebra and cory in the same tank for two years)?

I think the males are more orange/gold and the females are more yellow/goldish.

Glow Lights do school. Actually, if you have neons, they will school with them. It is better to have a wider face on the tank then a taller one. Tets stay more toward the bottom of the tank. They are good at cleaning up food from that your other fish knock down. An orange to blue and red contrast is really neat.

I just learned this one!
A SHOAL can be made up of many kinds of fish that kind of stick together. They don't have to move at the same time, they just stick to the general area of each other's company at a comfortable distance.
A SCHOOL is made up of many of the same specie and move, what appears to be, in unison, especially when scared or threatened. They stick together moving in the same general direction at the same general speed.
YAYY! I feel lern'ed!
