Rainbow Coi?
I have never seen one like this before, so could it be?

It doesn't look like a koi but it looks like a type of cyprinid. The body is too flat for it to be a koi. Koi look like a huge tube of sausage.

Didn't think it sounded right when karen told me what the shopkeeper had said it was. It has a very different look to it, not even one that I have seen in a goldfish before, so lends towards a hybrid. It's well grown, measuring about 5" and wonderful colours that I didn't expect. It has almost got a sheen to it, with a deep golden colour, and wonderful finnage, which has tinges of red and orange at the extremities.
the most unusual feature is it's face. He has two barbs, which are not normally associated with goldfish or koi, and the shape is all wrong for either IMO. Take a look below:

The color looks like an ogon koi, but the body is more goldfish than koi.
I would bet it is a man made hybrid.

Maybe its a cross between a butterfly koi x comet, or a shubunkin x koi. A couple of the fish in my pond might be hybrids too, some guy kept the goldfish and koi together and I guess one of the males fertilized the wrong eggs. My guys are still tiny, maybe 2-3". We'll see how it goes when they get bigger. Well, whatever it is, its pretty.  |

I must admit that a hybrid still tops the list, and I have never noticed the barbels on the koi before! Just shows how much notice I take of Speckle! Mind you, he hasn't got very big ones, I just looked.
Thanks for the input everyone, it's a beautiful fish, whatever it is, I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a monster and grow huge!
