Anyone know this type of catfish?

Yesterday at a not-so-local fish store, I saw these tiny little catfish-like guys that I've never seen before at any other LFS I've ever been to. I asked the people working there about them and none of them knew the name of this fish. I didn't have my camera with me, so I couldn't take a pic, but I can describe him...

Very small.. no bigger than an inch.. I asked the store employees if they knew how big they got, and they said they had these fish for 3 or 4 months and they haven't gotten any bigger at all. The most knowledgeable/helpful employee said he didn't think they would get much than they were. They had around 20 of these fish and they were all the same size.

Shape-wise, they looked sort of like a Dwarf Puffer, only not as fat. They had very little tail fins, just like a DP.

The color of the fish was kind of a orangish-tan, and they had 4 or 5 vertical black stripes.

Most of them were sucking on the glass like an algae eater.

I looked Planet catfish.com. but I couldn't seem to find this one.

Re: Anyone know this type of catfish?

Maybe a different variety of otocinclus? I've read about a "zebra oto" somewhere, generally seems to be a bit pricey compared to the more common variety though.

If you go to www.planetcatfish.com and put otocinclus in the search it brings up about 10 different kinds of oto and even an article on breeding them.

Re: Anyone know this type of catfish?

Definitely were not Tiger Barbs, although the coloring and marking were similar.

Carol, they looked a lot those zebra otos, but I don't think that's what they were. Their tail fins weren't nearly as large as the fish in those pics. It's possible they were zebra otos, however. I've haven't seen any pictures of anything else ever remotely resembling them.

Also, the price on these fish was only $1.99 each. I'm gonna try and get back to this store this weekend and pick up a couple. I would have bought one or two the first time I was there, but we were on our way to a friends house and wouldn't be coming home for several hours...

Re: Anyone know this type of catfish?

definately get them at $1.99 Check for little fat bellies and get those. If you have room 3 or 4 would be a good group.
