I bought a cute little what i thought was a rainbow shark, but when i looked at pics of rainbow sharks it doesn't look the same. hopefully someone can give me a name and pic from a description. Ive seen them in fish stores they are very common but have many names like ranbow shark, orange fin shark, red fin, and maroon fin. it is now 10 inches long and is a ravenous eater. it is bright silver with a black stripe that runs full length of its body, the fins on its under side are orange and just the tip of its tail is orange, its dorsal fin is plain. please help me identify it so i can figure out how big its going to get and if there are any special things i need to do for it.

What is the shape of the body like(i.e. bottom-feeder,middle-swimmer, or top-swimmer)? That is very important in an only written description like this.

That is a bala shark.

no i have bala sharks and they look nithing alike.

mabe hybrid could not find it in any of my fish books.

I found it an orange tail shark is its common name it is a member of the barb family.
