Betta breeding
Well we've finally got around to settling our black bettas in to try to get some baby-making done. We fed them week-old brine shrimp last night and got their tank to a nice constant temperature, did a partial waterchange today and let the female in the tank with the male. For about 15 minutes they played follow one another to the bubble nest, and we thought for sure they were going to start breeding, but after the first 15 minutes the male began to get a bit more insistant than we liked so we pulled the female back to her tank. The two 10g tanks are side by side where they can see one another, and the female is all alone in her tank, the male has a couple of juvenile Lasiancistrus and possibly some ghost shrimp in his tank.
The male's tank has tons of VERY dense java moss and some water lettuce which he uses to make bubblenests under.
We gave them more brine shrimp today and will give frozen bloodworms tomorrow. Monday after I get home from work we will try again, having fed them a probable diet of brine shrimp early Monday.
If we have our camera battery charger before then we will try to get pictures.
