Feeding "greens"

I see a lot of suggestions to feed "greens" - lettuce, spinach, cucumbers - to Silver dollars, among other fish.

I admit I've been nervous to try this as I'm worried about all the that is put into human foods.

Who does this? How do you make sure that the food is safe for your fishes?

Re: Feeding "greens"

we feed our bettas fruit.. the thing to do if you can is get organic veggies for your silver dollars and other fish, then you can clean the dirt off (if any) and feed it to the fish without having to think about chemicals. If you get non-organic produce, peel it and get the interior part. Organic would be best though, and the only way I'd do lettuce.

My fish love cucumber and peas. Here's a thread on this. http://www.fishlore.com/Forum/70-ple...ucumber.0.html

The general rule is that if it's okay for you to eat, your fish can eat it. I would not suggest giving them anything spicy or with a sauce on it though. With that said, I feed mine the same veggies I eat, mostly zucchini. If you are concerned about chemicals, then organic would be the way to go. Your silver dollars will love you for it!

i'd try apple.. maybe soften it up a bit though so the fish could chew it easier.
