depends on what kind of fish you have....bloodworms, meal worms, wax worms, crickets, earth worms, krill, are a few treats mine get...(although bloodworms turned into a main part of their diet)

My fish ADORE bloodworms so I'd recommend them to anyone they get bloodworms maybe once a week, sometimes less. Got Mollies, Angelfish and Platies atm and they all go wild for them

Hello Fishpie. Mine love freeze dried Krill. Be sure to pre-soak any freeze dried foods before feeding.

how do you pre-soak? dip the food in aquarium water and put the food with that same water into the tank?

buy some fresh garlic chopped up in a jar..use the juice from the jar into a cap or paper plate and put the food in it for a few seconds...

Hello Raptor. Shawnie gave you a great tip for pre-soaking. If you don't go the garlic route then I would remove a bit of tank water (doesn't take much) and pre-soak in it. I don't have chlorine issues so I can just use my tap water (from the well). The reason for Pre-soaking is so that the food swells before the fish eat it instead of it swelling inside the fish.
Have a good day today!

I use the little measuring cups that come on nyquil bottles and things like that!! Great for soaking foods. I keep it on the tank and get some water from there to soak in....when the fish see me getting it....they all come out and wait!!!
You can probably get a few of those cups at your pharmacy.

its recommended to soak freeze dried foods in some tank water or fresh garlic juice...that way the food doesnt swell in the fishies tummies and cause bloat and constipation not to mention fresh garlic juice is awesome for their health

Hi fishpie.

I just wanted to add that you can get bloodworms frozen, too, I think. I use the freeze-dried once a week. But also, to vary the diet, you can give them some veggies, like a green pea that's thawed and has the skin removed, and then chopped very finely. I think people also use zucchini. I've been toying with the idea of giving mine a bit from an unseasoned nori sheet as well.

I also use shrimp pellets, since I prefer food that I don't have to refrigerate, comes in a container, and can be scooped out without a mess with a spoon.

Peas help them stay regular and garlic helps them stay healthy.

And a bit off-topic: I assume someone has warned you about your bala shark, and how it will get too big for your 16 gallon?

Wow, didn’t know that, thanks for the insight Shawnie! And to answer the question, I feed my GBRs Frozen Bloodworms and Frozen Shrimp. And I also make my own frozen. i mix yolk(cooked like hard boiled) some Flakes and pellets. I give it to them and they are quite happy. Also helps with some stubborn eaters.
