| FWIW I typically crumble my flakes into tiny bits anyway. We have a slew of fish in a 47 gallon tall square tank, at or near the stocking limit, and don't have a waste problem, with one algae eater and one cory to clean up the bottom.
The reason I crumble the flakes is to make sure everyone can get some food, including the lower-dwelling tetras. We have eight danios now, and they are so quick that if I let the flakes sit on top of the water they will get the bulk of any feeding. The bigger fish don't seem to have any problems eating the smaller bites.
I just bought some color food, and was considering crisps. I didn't buy them because I read conflicting reports on just how much of a waste difference they make in practice, and also because I was worried they might float too much. |
