Feeding Fish

I didn't know where to post this!! We don't have a "general" posting area
After reading about the blind goldfish I remembered a habit of mine.

WHENEVER I feed my fish I tap 3 times on the glass. All the fish get accustomed to coming to eat when the hear the tap. It sure helps new fish get acclimated...as they follow the older fish and learn when to feed and come out from hiding.

This also helps when you need to catch a particular fish...tap, feed, and when they have finished tap again and they come to the front (fish are never done feeding)

This also conditions your finish to come up front for a good chance to inspect them!!!

Does everyone do this I have conditioned my my to do this ever since my first tank (before glass was invented (lolol)) Same procedure with outdoor pools and ponds.

I just always have assumed that everyone does this....do you
You should if you don't!!!

I dont tap per say but what a great idea!! I open and close the doors under their tank stand a few times and that brings them to the surface LOL

i have a squeeky tank lid that all of my fish have learned to be the dinner bell, dont ask me how it became squeeky but it works great for all my fish.

when i had my oscar he would usually watch and wait for me to pass by the tank, then he would swim to the top and hit the lid to tell me he was hungery, after i fed him he swam down and relaxed, i guess to digest the food, he sure was a good fish.

Good morning. I don't tap on my tank. All I have to do is show them the food container and they get really excited. Every 12 hours my fish know it's time to eat. They don't let me forget
