Can I thaw out and then refreeze bloodworms?

Just like the title says I only have 2 bettas and they don't eat all of the bloodworms from the thawed out cube. So is it safe to refreeze bloodworms? I just don't want to waste them.

Hello Mystic! I've read other posts where people have forgotten and left their blood worms out of the freezer. Some have refrozen them others have thrown them out. Personally it's not something I would recommend. I'm sure you'll get some more responses.
Have a good evening!

I would try cutting the cubes into halves or quarters before defrosting them... that way you don't have to worry about the waste... or contamination from refreezing. You can also buy the type that comes in the thin sheets and just break off a small piece. Or as some here might suggest... Just buy more fish.

I have gone from the fishstore with frozen only to be thawed by the time I got home which i would put into the freezer asap. I would not however use thawed foods that I had out for awhile. If you have a way to shave off a small portion that may work out better than re freezing them.

Thank you for all the responses! I think I will just throw away the extras I have now and then next time just cut off a corner so I'm not using the whole cube. My bettas go nuts for bloodworms! My one jumped a little more than a half an inch out of the water to get hers!

I wouldn't recommend thawing and refreezing bloodworms. We have a similar situation in our reef tank; there are only 3 fish in there and feeding a whole cube of frozen food isn't really a good idea. We just put a frozen cube on a plate and use an exacto knife to cut it into parts, then we put the parts in a Ziploc bag before they thaw and put them back in the freezer. It's really easy to just pull out a chunk as needed and it's worked great for us.

Good idea, thank you! Cutting it into chunks and then storing it away seems like the best idea. Getting more fish is probably a better idea but I don't want to get carried away lol

No problem.

Another option that I didn't think of before would be to buy the bloodworm flat packs rather than the cubes. The flat packs have a Ziploc-type zipper so they are resealable, and you could just use an exacto knife to cut off little chunks whenever you feed.

I will have to check to see if my fish store has that type of frozen bloodworms. I didn't see them the last time I was there. The flat pack would probably be more beneficial to me. When I got the bloodworms I only saw the cubes, but then again I didn't really look too hard since I felt awkward looking in the freezing, not really knowing what I was looking for, lol.
