To Soak, or Not To Soak?

I think I had read something about Neon Tetras needing to have thier food soaked to avoid getting air in their stomachs. I've also got GloFish and Cory Cats (who are more than happy to feed off the bottom of the tank so soaking works great for them). What do you guys recommend?

I had been soaking my flakes and pellets for five minutes before feeding them to my fish, but they sink so fast when soaked that they go straight to the bottom, where not all of the fish will feed.

The food should be fine if it's not soaked. I've been keeping various tetras for ages, and the first contact the food has with the water is when it hits the tank water!

Hello Zom! As for the flakes you can always just hold them under the water for a second and they will sink to the bottom. No real need to pre soak.

ive never had a tetra bloat from flakes...but I have others for sure..especially my bettas....also, adding some flakes to a small drop of fresh garlic juice is great for the fish

Don't know about tetras gulping air, but my tetras seem to only eat sinking food. They will very rarely take food from the top. So I pre-soak my flakes for a minute in a spoon, then I drop it in the tank.

I have some circulation from the filter and bubble wand, and this keeps the flakes circulating in the water for a while before they sink to the bottom. Most of the food gets eaten, and I don't have any water quality issues.
