I don't know about apples, but they like Zucchini, Cucumber, and Lettuce. Also Algae wafers and algae!

i've been trying to get my algae to grow, but it ain't budging, in this tank. I want to get algae wafers but my other fish will probably eat them before the BN gets to them. do you know any way to stop the other fish from getting at the Algae wafers?

You're Algae probably isn't growing because the BN is eating it! The other fish might peck at the algae wafers, but if the BN wants them he'll chase off the other fish, thats what mine does. The only fish that I have problems with when feeding Algae wafers is the Oscar, he eats them before my Plec can get them, so I just put my whole arm in the tank and put them in a cave where only the Plec can get them.

If I feed Zucchini I put some fishing line though it and let it hang down the side of the tank. The Plecs eat it from there.

Good morning. If you want some algae to grow, remove a rock or some rocks from your aquarium. Place them in a bucket covered with water and place it in the sun for a few days. Algae will begin to grow and you can place it back into your tank. There are also veggie clips available at your Local Fish Store (LFS) that have a suction cup for you to stick it to the glass.

Yes, they'll probably eat apple slices, but you want to be careful adding anything sugary to the water, as you may encourage a bacteria bloom.
If you want to treat them to an apple slice, you may want to do so just before a water change. Don't leave the apple in the water for too long, either (a few hours, maybe).

i put a rock into my nursery tank not to long ago, to make algae grow on the rock (then put it back into the other tank). my nursery tank has too much algae.

I know someone that spears the zucchini with a clean fork and just drops it in. Easy removal too.
