Bristle-nose pleco food

what is a cheap BN food? would apple, cucumber and zucchini work well? or would it just pollute the tan?

any uneaten food i can take out after a day, or could i just leave it in there for him to finish it off. i also have a chinese algae eater who might snack on it and i have 3 crayfish. would the crayfish eat the left overs?

my algae doesn't grow much in the tank that's why i need some food for him/her. is there any way to speed up algae growth without getting a light?

thanx

nope thats all good but blanch them fist, so just boil some water and throw it for a few minuted to make it softer. you should realise that they may not eat it for a little while so eat it so take it out once the night is done....on that note throw it in at night, and try to get it to stay it at the bottom of the tank by a clip or putting a stone on it. then take it out in the morning. they dont take food like that for a while though so dont be suprized if it doesnt take it for maybe even the fist few months even....mine still doesnt..just second hand knowlage...

hope it works out for you.

ps mine just eats the algae on the sides of the tank....ive got a lot of light and a lot of plants...and i know that isnt recomended....

i feed my BN cucumber slices maybe once a week, i normally leave them in for about 36hrs. i also just cut a slice, rinse it, weigh it down. i dont do any sort of preparation of it. i feed him algae discs and shrimp pellets as daily food. im not 100% sure he eats on the shrimp pellets, but i know somebody in my tank is, so i keep on feeding them. he does like the algae wafers i know for sure, heres proof

I feed an algae wafer about once a day. I also put in a cucumber or zuchini about once a week. I have never boiled mine, and they usually strip it down by the next morning(my loaches enjoy them too!)

the only thing i wouldn't add is the apple, i think that there's something not so great about the sugars in it, i can't remember exactly, but veggies are the way to go.

when i feed the cucumber i use a plastic fork to hold it down. i stick the end of the fork (not the points) into the side of the cucumber, then stick the forked side of the fork into my gravel

Calico Bristlenose Pleco tank
These are one of my newest additions - a group of calico regular fin bristlenose plecos, I've had them for two weeks now. There are 5 of them sharing a 20 long. The day they arrived they were around 1/2" to 3/4" in length. I don't think I've ever seen any fry grow as fast as these guys have, in 2 short weeks they now range from 1 1/4" - 1 1/2" long.

Prior to getting these guys, my only pleco experience was watching the little ones from Petsmart die in my tanks (usually in 3-4 days). Thankfully, Adam (Azrider) has kindly provided long distance bristlenose pleco coaching.

I really would like to get a group of long fin bn's if I can manage to successfully raise these guys.
