Hi,
I read some posts about making a veg fish food holder.
I thought of a simple idea about how to make one.
What if we just put a strong thread through it and suspend it with help of a small rock? I have tried it and worked fine (I think), the fish just ganged up on it, and being suspended, it is accessible on more sides, and easy to take out.
But now I wonder if the fish could actually eat it, as when a fish would try to bite it, the piece would go back and also I could see no flakes falling down...
You can see the video I made out of it. And sorry for the poor quality, don't have a good video camera.
I think your idea works just fine. If they don't get it on the first bite they'll keep trying They sure look like they're enjoying themselves there!
What I had done was use one of the clips you buy at the LFS, the plastic ones with a suction cup on it. I removed the suction cup and tied a piece of dental floss to it, then tied the other end of the floss to the clip. I attached the clip to some veg and put the whole thing in the tank (let it rest on the bottom) but let the string come out of the tank (I attached the suction cup to the outside of the tank). This made it easy too to remove the veg later, I liked it bc I didn't have to put my hands into the tank so I didn't scare my fish.
After reading your post I was curious as to what kind of fish you are keeping that eat chicken. So I had a look at your aquarium info.
Not that I see feeding chicken having any problems but I did notice that you have several stocking issues. Just one example is the two rainbow sharks in the same tank. They will eventually rip each other apart. And even one rainbow shark requires a minimum 55 gallon aquarium.
Have you sought any advice on your stocking options? If not I’d like to suggest that you post a new thread listing the size and stock of each of your aquariums. It is a little difficult to sort out from your info as you have more then 3 tanks.
I have A few Guppies, 4 Zebra Danios and a Siamese fighter in the Tank where I have put the chicken, and all of them are eating it, and the fighter has shown the most enthusiasm I've ever seen one with for chicken!
And about the Rainbow sharks, I have always had a pair in my tanks, for at least 3 4 years now (No one from any LFS told me not to keep a pair), but never saw those two fight...
