Live foods...

So I was skimming through a fish book at the book-store the other day and the had a section on live food for fish. Now one of the entry's is one that I very much support however i'm curious why it's never suggested.
What was it?
Earthworms

That's right plain old earthworms. Apparently fish love them and they are actually highly nutritious. More so if you feed the whole worm to the fish vs cutting it up and feeding pieces.

So why do you guys think that this is never suggested?

My fish have a really tough time eating the Omega One dried bloodworms, they're already too big for their little mouths and they're only 1 cm long, I can't imagine how they'd eat an average earthworm. I'd wonder too what may or may not be inside the earthworm that might harm my fish (I discounted mosquito larvae for the same reason). Besides....ewwww....(sorry).

Since I'm currently dealing with a parasite spread via vectors such as worms and shrimp, I'm pretty reluctant to feed ANY live foods to my fish. Dried stuff only for me!

in the spring and summer months, mine do eat earthworms...mostly my cichlids....sometimes you have to cut them up to fit in their mouths, and it can be gross..but really make sure you get them from a place that has no pesticides or any harmful chemicals as many are found in gardens and planted areas

Fish not interested?

I have tried alive(intact) and also cut earthworms, but my Guppies, betta n Zebra Danios never have eaten it, I've even tried cutting an earthworm along its length several times, to make thin threads of it, but no luck...
