This is a good reference on how to properly take care of your betta:

the betta care guide is great

i'm not sure if it's mentioned on there, but i fast my bettas for at least one meal a week or one day a week as they do have a tendency to get bloated or constipated and definitely would stuff themselves to the point of death if you would let them! i actually prefer frozen bloodworms, brine shirmp, and daphnia to the freeze dried variety because with the freeze dried it tends to bloat them fairly easily as well.

I use pellets and freeze dried blood worms with my Betta's.
and the occasional flake as candy one in a while.
I fast 1 day a week as well.
For actual brands ect. I've heard good things about Hikari and Omega One.
Hope that helps

We use Hikari and Attison pro pellets as our betta staple food. I think Attison is the most cost effective in the long run.

We also feed hikari frozen bloodworms... etc
