fruit isnt recommended as it has too much acid and releases too much waste in a tank..veggies like cukecumbers or zuchinni(sp) or even some lettuce leaves have been ok in tanks..but remove after 12-24 hours if not eaten...

Generally vegetables will last longer in the tank but I personally just leave them over night then take whats left out. I have fed cantaloupe rind and water melon rind but only leave it in for about and hour then did a water change after. The sugers from fruit can cause an algae bloom if left too long.
