Earthworm and Eel questions?

Hi everyone, tonight I feed my three eels some earthworms for the first time, the eels are about 5 inches give or take a inch. I thought two of the eels had eaten since I saw them go crazy. I had put 4 worms in there. I saw one eel eat 2 whole and the other larger eel eat 1 whole and then 1 worm got away and went into the sand. Anyhow I watched them for along time and I know they had eaten the worms. I checked in a little while later and I saw one of the eels had what looked like a tiny bit of worm coming out of its gill. Then about 5 hours later after the lights had been out I went back to check on them and I noticed that there was 3 worms wiggling in the aquarium (one had already gotten lose when I put in there the first time, butI'm asuming two of the worms got thrown up. One of the eels looked very exhaused. My questions are is this common for a worm to come back up when a fish ate it hours before and also what happens to worms that get stuck in the aquarium and go under the sand or gravel (I have another tank that one got lose in today as well) hehe? Some said they can't live in water but I'm not so sure since they seemed fine..... Anyhow help would be great!!! One of the eels I've been concerned about since he had got scraped up pretty bad from crawling and getting stuck in the filter and has been very weak for awhile (the other eel also did this but hes been fine and eating like a little hoggie). I was happy to see the weak had finally eaten a worm but now I'm asumming MAYBE NOT?!?! Also does anyone know where they sell 1 inch earthworms? The worms are about 2-3 inch worms maybe they are just to big? Although the eels DID NOT act like they had a hard time eating them!!!!!!! Thanks!!!

Not many folks here keep eels, so most of us haven't had the experience to answer this question.
Sorry. Hopefully someone with an answer will come around.

Hi lilfishyfin
I feed my axolotls live worms and the odd one does get away . When I upgraded my tank , I finally got around to removing everything from the old one and found 2 live worms . This was about 2 weeks later .
I get my worms from a fishing tackle shop , they usually have a good supply but that would depend on the area you live and what people use for bait .
I always rinse them off before feeding .
Hope this helps

Hi Seedy!!! Thanks so much for the reply!!! Your picture of your axolotls is SOOOO CUTE!!! What is its name?? I used to have salamanders, mud puppies and newts they were truly some of my favorites!!!! I'm wondering myself how many worms I might find in my tank later on lol. I also have put the worms in my other tank and I know I saw one go in the gravel, my crawfish loves to eat them though so maybe at night hes gone looking around for them. I had gotten my worms at the a pet store but yeah I think your idea is better, you probably get more worms at the tackle shop so I've have to try that next time. Thanks again for your post!!!!!!!!!
