Pleco does not eat

I bought a Green Spotted Rubber Pleco last weekend as part of my clean-up crew. When I first put him in there he stayed in the back and munched at the algae that had built up in the glass. A few days into it he found a great spot under the front side of the driftwood I placed in the tank. He hasnt moved since. I tried putting an algea waffer right in front of him and he didnt eat it, the mollies stole it away (hungry little pigs). I blanched some zuchinni and put it under the driftwood right in front of him and he didnt touch it, speedy my gold inca snail loved it though. I dont know what to feed him and worry he isnt getting enough. Any suggestions?

try a piece of cuke on a veggie clip and hang it down on the side where he hangs out..they eat mostly at nite so maybe putting in a wafer later at nite when all the lights are off will help also ...goodluck

Do you know the scientific name for your fish? There are Rubber/Rubbernose plecos, and Green Phantoms, and Spotted plecos.

If we know what he is, maybe we can help you find a food he'll eat.

I would go with what Shawnie said, I only feed my pleco when I turn the lights out. As soon as the lights go out, my pleco my clown knife fish and my shovelnose catfish come out of hiding and start eating while the rest of my fish just hang around.

This morning I snuck in and he was moving around digging at the gravel. As soon as he caught sight of me he made a V-line to his spot under the driftwood. I am going to get some cucumber at the grocery store today (blech one veggie I cant eat) and see if he will take that, I know speedy will so it wont be a total loss.

Should I blanch that as well?

We have albino lfbn plecos, but just slice and peel the cucumber before putting it in the tank with a veggie clip. If you want, you can microwave it for about 10 seconds, but it doesn't seem to affect our plecos either way.

Gus (my pleco) is very quick and shy so I have to sneak in to see him. He seems to be actively eating the algea and swimming around quickly. I put another piece of zuccini in last night and it appears to be eaten some what. The mollies or snail could have eaten it but I cant say. Tonight I will try the cucumber.

(I lost speedy last night. He looked slow and lethargic. I got a black apple snail, j.r., and in comparison he's much more active than speedy ever was. I think speedy might have been sick from day 1)
