Live Food Basics?

I have a small group of platies, and I would like to give some sort of protein and variety in their diet regularly. My LFS sells live brine shrimp and tubifex worms. Is there a reason to pick one over the other, or should I alternate? How long does the live food last? I don't want to start up a shrimp or worm farm, but is there a way to make them last longer? Could I freeze them and then thaw small portions out as needed?

Thanks in advance ^^.

brine shrimp would be my choice. there is a variety of frozen foods availble at many fish stores including brine shrimp and worms. They are cubes that you keep in your freezer until necessary. Take out one cube and cut it into fourths. place one fourth in a cup with a very small amount of aquarium water. Use a toothpick to separate food particles. Once completly thawed, place the food in aquarium. If they finish it all, repeat the process again. Feed them only as much as they can consume in 2 minutes, or as labelled on the box it came in. Any unused food is place back into the blister packet and frozen

I think I have heard of a diet that is too heavy in brine shrimp can cause constipation in most fish. Platies are omnivores, so make sure they're getting a good mix of fibrous veggies, and this won't be a problem.
