Where to get...

Im planning on keeping glass catfish, and I hear they eat insects and mosquito larvae. Where do I get such food?

for mosquito larvae, can't you just leave some open water outside and you'll get the larvae eventually?

i remember a year or two ago, there was a big health scare about mosquitos carrying disease in the US and everyone was warned about water.

Would you feel safe throwing nasty water that you left outside in your tank?

I wouldn't.

The thing about getting mosquito larva from out side is also parasites that you might be bringing into your tank. You also have to make sure it is all mosquito larva and not any dragonfly eggs, larva or nymphs they are predators. I don't think it is worth the risk, i get frozen blood worms.

I use frozen blood worms, you can buy them at LFS's and most other petstores. Also order them from all the online stores. There are other live foods you can get at lfs's.

BTW you don't want to encourage any mosiqutos to grow around your home, they are carriers of west nile virus that can be deadly to humans, and is deadly to small animals such as cats dogs and birds. It is all over the US and seen in the summer time.

Hikari brand bloodworms are what we like to feed. Either thawed frozen ones or soaked dried ones should be accepted by the glass cats.
