Veggie Clip Question?

Well, I recently got some Cory cats, and I heard that they'd appreciate cucumbers/zuchini every once in a while. Problem is, I can't find any locally, so is it okay is I just drop a slice of cucumber to the bottom of the tank? Or is there a DIY method that works well? Thanks,

Cory

I know that if you blanch them (basically cook them a little in the microwave or boiling water) they will sink to the bottom.

Ok, I may try that I also know not to leave it in for too long, and it may take a while for the fish to understand that it's food.

Before I got a veggie clip I wedged the cucumber in a tunnel of one of the decorations in the tank....I think someone also recommended putting the slice of cucumber or zuchinni on a fork and dropping that in there. Our pleco likes the cucumber fresh - he won't touch spinach or romaine lettuce that I tried microwaving first. Very picky is he!

Cukes/zuchinni are really foods for plecos and not corys.

They prefer just about everything else - soaked flakes, shrimp pellets, worms and brineshrimp.

Yea, without a veggie clip - we'd put the corner of a cave or some other piece of decor on top of the slice.

I just use a rock to hold the lettuce leaves my silver dollars eat , you might just have to slice it long ways so enough is sticking out.

I use plant weights, and poke a hole in the slice near the edge and wrap the weight around the skin. I don't know if that makes sense, but if you have plant weights, it's easy enough to work something out with them

My plec usually moves it around, so it would come out from under bogwood etc.

tie the cucumber/zuchini to a big pebble with rubber band...I have seen Aquarium Shops do it.

Ok So, if I put cucumbers in the tank, my Cory's or betta's won't touch them?

They certainly won't if you put whole cucumbers in!
If you try cutting slices into triangular pieces, cories might try it, as there will be a soft edge piece to chew on. My betta eats tiny pieces of cucumber, but then he is a bit mad!!

I wouldn't be surprised to see the corys eating some of the veggies, but usually the Bettas don't care much for them (other than peas).
