I'm going on holiday!

For 5 days.

I have 2 little tetra holiday sticks...but no box so I'm not sure how long these sticks last.

Some people say not to bother because it will just ruin the quality of the water.

what do you think?

(P.s: I also have these little cone shaped snails which I suspect might also be interested in the sticks)

If your fish are healthy and you feed normally right before you leave and right after you get back, I would go that route.

You could drop a stick in, but they'll quickly be consumed by the snails, often it can be just a matter of hours until the snails take care of the sticks, producing their high waste amounts in even higher quantity and that could cause a lot of trouble for the fish. So I agree with Dino - I'd feed them the day you leave & get back, doing a partial water change and cleaning as close to the last feeding as your schedule allows.

On a side note, if you didn't add the snails intentionally, you may want to consider getting rid of them, they reproduce ridiculously.

What fish are you leaving? Adult fish should be fine. If you are talking about fry, they are more of a problem. If you have real plants usually fish will find something to nibble on.

I agree with the others, don't feed, unless they are fry. Then get back with us & there might be some suggestions.

yeah, i've had the fish for over a year now.
And I'm typing from Paris so I took the first advice that came.

we've lived with the snails for over a month now.

There seems to be only half a dozen which I don't see as a problem for now and they are all quite small.

I also have 3 well established live plants so they can cope with a nibble.

Thanks for the tips!
