King British Vs Aquarian

I have a question:

Has anyone else had problems with King British Flake food?

I bought some a couple of weeks ago because my regular supply ran out and it's horrible! It's very oily, taints the water and clumps up as soon as the air gets to it.

Aquarian, on the other hand, is brilliant. It stays dry, even when it's been opened for a couple of days, crumbles very easily for the little ones, and doesn't leave an oily film on top of the tank.

Maybe I should start a poll on this one. Anyone else had similar experiences?

I can't help you since I'm US but check the ingredients, here Gunnie got me going on omega one fish food and it's first ingredient isn't fish meal, which is nice and that's what I buy now. You can see the ingredients and see if one has better one's then the other, could show something.

I had a feeling this would be a UK sort of thread, but I don't know if you can get anything like this over there, so had to ask the question

Re: King British Vs Aquarian

well, i know different brands of flakes here will run a huge gamit of quality and some will leave water cloudy or oily or turn into soggy lumps of goo.

i don't know about finding King British here, but Aquarian brand food is made by API and can be ordered at www.drsfosterandsmith.com - is this what you
were using?

Re: King British Vs Aquarian

I've tried King British ad didn't like it. Like you said it was oily and turned into clumps. I had to throw it away after a couple of days. I use Aquarian, which is great!

That's pretty well what happened to me. I wasn't sure whether it was just a bad batch or something, but I guess not.

If you know of a good supply of loose, I'd be very interested, since I'm using around 1 tub every two days now!

i've never bought a tub of food.. that's WAY more than i need.. our tanks could fit in the tub..

seriously, they're different sizes.. but i think around 1 or 2 ounces usually.

Re: King British Vs Aquarian

The ones I have been buying lately are 50g (2 onces), but I normally buy 1kg at a time loose. The difference is vast: 25g costs 5 pounds sterling, 1kg costs 18 pounds. The King British was slightly cheaper, which is why I tried it, but won't be using it again!

I have only been buying the tubs because my supplier is having problems getting the loose just now, and with the numbers I have, I am using quite a lot.
