I sliced a cucumber the long way, really thin, yesterday at 6:00. I didn't blanch it or poach it. I just stuck some plant weights through it and let it sink to the bottom. It softened up in the water and then the otos definitely liked it...

That was last night at 6:00... how long should I leave it in the water? 24hrs? 48hrs?

Should I have blanched it?

What else do they like to eat?

I noticed my other fish picking at it. What veggies are good for them??

I asked about how long to leave cucumber in a tank in a thread a little further down the page. General consensus seems to be to leave it in for no longer than 24 hours:

I used to blanch my cucumber but only because I didn't have veggie clips, so I wanted it to sink. Once I got clips, I didn't bother blanching it anymore.
