| Im thinking that when they mature you may find your guppies in trouble. I've had firemouths before and they are wonderful fish, but Im not sure I would keep them with guppies. |

| They are considered as one of the few cichlids that are safe to keep in community tanks, based on the info I've read around. Problems arise if two or more males are kept in a tank too small to provide territorial divisions for them to be comfortable.

| i would not risk it,
my 2 almost killed a jewel cichlid the other night that was twice the size of them and almost had to remove the jewel but he is now getting better. mine also rip up 3 cm homebred convict fry. IMO they are VERY underatted but its different with each different fish. Still i would not recomend it. if you try it and put them in with guppys, they will most likely get along at first. once there settled in the will dominate a peacful community tank with ease. then when there bigger they will eat all the guppys ...
good luck |

| I know they eat fry, which fish doesn't? But will they eat the adults? Also will they go after platys, I think the molly and swords will be safe. Will harqueilns rosbaras be safe. How about rosy minnows? |

| It just depends. Like all cichlids you never know until you try it, provided a big enough tank I think you should be fine. I think they are one of those fish that are all show and not real tough. They flare their gills a lot but USUALLY it stops there. Try it out and see how it goes.

| Should I risk it??? Ok my LFS has some firemouths that are an inch big. I am sort of looking for something to control my everespanding ammounts of fry. Will it be too risky I have heard that you just have to try it and I want to try it since they are small little firemouths. |

| should be fine then ..but if you get a breeding pair, they dont play as nice with others...but they still arent super agressive enough with other cichlids...(at least my 4 arent) |

| I think I will have to talk my mom into taking me to my lfs some other time. I forgot, my tank has a footprint of a 30 so would it be too small for 1 and maybe 2 kirbs |

| I don't think guppies would be okay with the Fire mouth Cichlids. I have a fire mouth cichlid in my 29 gallon tank, but all of the fishes are bigger than the fire mouth. He's like 1.5" while my angels are HUGE. But the good thing is, my angels don't attack the fire mouth, not even my other fishes
So guppies wouldn't be a good idea but I'm pretty sure bigger tetras, or barbs would be great |

| All cichlids love to mess with plants.
Although your firemouth probably wouldn't. IF it is still young. Mine doesn't except for the Java Ferns and Cabombas. Other than that it leaves my Amazon Swords alone. He doesn't mess up my plants like my Severums did or like my previous silver dollars have done. My plants can still grow back fairly quickly. I fertilize my plants every two days so they are well fed. I don't have to but my aquarium is low light so they don't get super strong light like from the T5 HO lights pet stores use to keep their plants looking good |
