I have 2 firemouths, 2 convicts, a rubbernose pleco and i just put in 2 angelfish. The convicts want to attack the angelfish but every time they try, the firemouths chase them away. It's like the firemouths are protecting the angelfish. At first I didn't think much of it but it has been going on all day and it's pretty clear to see that the firemouths are defending the angelfish. The firemouths are bigger than the convicts but they usually don't mess with them, only when the convicts go after the angels. Anyway, I don't know if that is normal or not but I just thought that was pretty cool and was wondering if anyone else has ever seen anything like that.

ive never seen anything like it, dontk now hwy firemouths would protect angels

Could be that the Angels and Firemouths live together in that side of the tank, its their territory. So they are just defending their turf. Its weird that they'd coexist like that though. I've found both Angels and FM's to be pretty tame and mild mannered so its not to surprising i guess.

Maybe its like Russia and US in WWII...unlikely allies but just have a common enemy.

I have 2 firemouths that protect my 2 angelfish from my black belt cichlids. I have never seen the bb go after the angelfish..but the fm won't even let the bb come close to them. The convict in my tank doesn't like the bb either but gets along great with everyone else.
