When should I worry?

I just came back from school and brought my firemouth with. It is the first time I've traveled with him. He looks fine but he is not coming out to eat. At what point should I be worried about his health?

Yeah, I go to college about 2 hours away from my hometown, they are doing some major repair work in my apartment building so we had to vacate during break. At this point he's eating, but not his usual amount. Right now I have flakes, he seems to prefer when they sink, should I switch to a stick type feed, perhaps?
