Powerhead filters for river tank

Currently I have 1 Hillstream loach hanging out in my tropical tank, and I know how bad that is for him so I'd like to upgrade his living arrangements.

My plan would be to get a 30g long at least (bigger if my criagslist haunts are particularly fruitful) and get a nice river setup going. Other inhabitants would be more Hillstreams, my danios and (hopefully) Weather loaches. I live in a basement so it's perfect for keeping these coldwater fish comfy.

What sort of powerheads would I need for this setup? I was thinking of getting 2-3 of them all at one end for a more uniform current (intakes at the opposite end) but I'm not sure how many GPH would be ideal or if there's a specific model that works best for this sort of thing.

I've never done this type of setup, but loaches.com has two articles that might be worth your time to read, one of which recommends at least 12x turnover, the other describes a setup using 16x turnover.

Nice!

I think I'll go with one main powerhead of 295 GPH and two supporting heads of 106 or higher.

This is going to be an awesome, awesome tank *hoping for 4ft long min*

Think how many more loaches I could have in there! They might even be happy enough to breed

That sounds like an awesome setup, I like the idea of having a main head with the two lower power heads on the sides. I've seen drawings for these setups, but never photos of a finished project. Can't wait for pics.
