Rena XP2 Question...

Hi Everyone, how often do you clean your filter motor on your XP2? I clean my AC filter motor about every 2 months. Any help would be great!

Wow , sorry no one has anything to say yet. So I'll put in my two cents. I don't have a AC (I assume Aqua Clear) but I have three HOBs of another brand and I have an XP3. I've also clean the motor (impeller) about once every two months, but I haven't cleaned my "motor" on the XP3 yet. It's been over a year since I've had the canister filter. I clean out the media about every 6 months or if the flow rate slows down, but never cleaned the motor. I'll be honest with you, I'm afraid to take apart the housing and not be able to get it back together and I'd freak out if the filter failed because it's in my Discus tank!

True, I guess I'll keep a eye on the media and make sure the flow rate does not drop. I could be wrong, but I didnt see any directions as to how to take the motor apart. I just go with the flow, oh and maybe thats why no one posted yet because they are scared to take that thing apart!

... maybe il take mine apart just so every one isn't scared

although i don't thine my motor comes in direct contact with incoming or out going water, i think it just build up treasure to push it back through. wouldn't that cause it to not get dirty as often or at all?
any who im gunna clean everything out today, so i might aswell

II know it's possible because you I've seen Dr Foster & Smith has replacement parts for it, I'm just the type of person that puts a screwdriver in my hand and everything around me falls apart!

ah well... i cleaned it, it took...literally 30 seconds... less time than it does for my AC!!

on the lid where the motor is, there was a twisty cap- i twist, and tadah! there the impeller is, sorry if yours isn't so easy ...()

Don't need a screwdriver! It's looking better
Your profile says you have plants, so was it all filled with muck?
Did it need a lot of cleaning?
Does it run better?

well, ive only had my canister filter for a month... and its not a rena XP series, there was gunk on it , not much cleaning needed, and it had a little more suction to it (picking up particles from slightly farther away) i was trying to get pics.... but they aren't wanting to upload >.>..... i shall try again.

EDIT: i uploaded VIA another site...http://www.instructables.com/file/FDZPZI2G4UH935O/
