I have an aqueon power filter 20 which uses activated carbon cartridges. Do I have to replace the cartridges or can I just cut the cartridge and pour out everything that is inside it and wait until the cartridge falls apart? I already have a piece of a sponge and a biomax bag in the filter but I still don't want to throw away the cartridge.

Just cut the cartridge and use it until it falls apart. Simply rinse it on occassion.

How did you fit a sponge and biomax bag in the your Aqueon PF? Doesn't seem like there would be room with the cartridge and bio grid in place. Did you remove something? What size AquaClear biomax did you use ... and what type of sponge?

I have a biomax 20 and I cut an aquaclear sponge in half. The sponge is an aquaclear 150 but it is very old so I don't know if that is still the name used for it. Nothing was removed.
