Which Filter? Ford, Chevy, or Dodge?

So, I'm getting things in place to get my 75g started up. It's going to have sand substrate but I don't know if it's going to be planted yet. I've come to a crossroad as far as filters go. It appears they all do the same thing and everyone has their favorite brand (hence thread title). I've narrowed my Canister filters down to 3 brands: Eheim, Fluval and Marineland.
I noticed in another thread, someone mentioned using a Penguin in conjunction with a Fluval. Is it a good idea to have a HOB working with a canister? Talking to someone at a LFS, he said not to have sand with a HOB because the sand will kill the biowheel and other workings.

Really I guess the question is, is there a good website that has reviews on these filters? I've looked at a couple and have come up with the conclusion that I'm better off setting the 3 filters infront of me, closing my eyes and pointing at one.

I was looking for a filter for a 75 and had a huge number of responses almost all for the Aqua Clear 110. Its rated for a 110g tank so is more then enough for a 75. The way the different filter types are in the filter make it basically like a canister only it is a HOB. So far I am pleased with mine and the price is right as well. Plus it is nice and quiet. I did a Google search for the AC110 reviews and they were almost 100% positive on all the sites that had reviews.
