Foam Question

Hi Everyone, I have 2 AquaClear 50's on my 29 gal and a AC30 on my 10 gallon. About every 3 months I like to rise the foam because it gets alittle clogged. My question is should I shake the foam in the tank water OR in treated tap water outside of the tank? I decied to shake the foam while in the tank when doing a water change to help keep some of my bacteria and it made the water murky at the moment. So next time should I shake the foam outside of tank or keep shaking it off in the tank? Thanks!

when you do a water change, put some of the dirty water in a bucket and just shake it in that ....never shake inside the tank as you will get all the nasties in the tank

Hello Wolf. I agree with Shawnie. When you do a water change in your tank, use some of the siphoned water to rinse your foam in. This will save the good bacteria inside and on the sponge. You can give is a gentle squeeze or just "swoosh" it around in the bucket. Never use new tap water on your bio media.
Your tank should clear before too long.
