My Fish Got Caught In The Filter!!!

I happened to be walking by and I saw her little black tail sticking out of the filter (hose? pipe?)! I screamed, turned off the filter and she was immediately released. She has small white wounds around her eyes. (She's a black moor goldfish.) Other then that she appears to be alright, but now I'm scared to death of the filter. I almost want to turn it off. What should I do?

The adventure just never ends when you own an aquarium ...

It's five minutes later and now she's acting listless again. God, I hope she doesn't die.

aww poor thing...well you can put some nylon or filter floss over the intake and attach it with a rubber band..but more important , a healthy fish shouldnt ever be stuck to a filter ..they cycling process is taking its tow on her..do you have some prime or amquel+ ? daily water changes and some extra stress coat+ to heal her boo'boos will do wonders...hope she does ok!

NOW MY BLOODY FILTER BROKE!!!

I was attempting to do what you suggested Shawnee (use nylon and a rubber band Excellent idea, by the way) when the filter broke. I reasembled and reassembled and reassembled and nothing ...the motor makes chopping sounds and refuses to suck up any more water. And just to add to the fun ...the lights fell into the tank too.

I feel like I'm going crazy!!!. Anyway I'm rushing off to the Aquarium store to get a new filter. Wish me luck! Hope Molly can hold out ...

Bad Fish Tank!!!

it probably just isnt fit right into the perpeller area....sometimes they are tricky like that and its got to go in just right to spin around..also try filling up the filter with water ..some dont auto start......good luck!

I always say nice things to my filters - positive reinforcement. Maybe it felt bad about your fish and heard you say you were gonna shut it down...

One of my filters did that when I first started it. It just didn't have enough water in it yet and it was having a hard time sucking up the water from tank (the water level was too low). Add some water to the filter box (where it flows out from) until the water starts to flow again and make sure that water can go in through the nylon and that the water in the tank comes up high enough on the intake tube. It took several minutes for me to get mine to work again, but it did. Maybe yours will too.

Okay I feel calmer now. How do they say it in Kindergarten? Stop take a deep breath and relax.

I got a new more fancier and expensive filter. The opening is so small there is no way Molly can get trapped in it. Shockingly Molly is doing well. She certianly isn't acting sick. and she is actually scavenging for food.

I feel cautiously optimistic.

Oh and Jaysee ... normaly I and my filter get along splendidly but I caught it going out on another fish and you know what that means ...
