pls help

hey there,

i have a 20gallon planted, freshwater, tank. i bought it 9mos ago and at the time also bought a penguin biowheel filter. up til now the filter has been great, i only had to clean the filter for the first time a couple of water changes ago. so the filter case holds the wheel part which spins, and also the square spongy filter. the wheel part isn't spinning regularly, it stops for a few seconds then spins quickly, then slows down, pauses, then goes...
is this a normal problem with an easy fix or does it sound like the filter is broken? the water seems to be passing thru ok.

As far as i know it is ok. Though it may be something with the rotating device on the sides. If you remove the wheel, there will be 1 tube on both sides of the wheel. This is what holds it in place. Maybe something is making it get stuck?

I have one of these bio wheels, and in the instructions it says that after a while those little arms at the opposite ends of the wheel can start to get gunked-up. You may need to scrup those arms a little with a toothbrush or something and make certain the slots where the arms rest are clean. If you do that and it still stutters, don't worry about it. Sometimes mine stutters now and then, too.
