HAD ENOUGH! What size Fluval for 40Gal?

That's it! I've absolutely had enough of my faulty Aqua One 750 canister filter. Although I can't say the problem is with the brand becuase I have a 1050 on a bigger tank that is cleaning up a storm!

My question is would it be better to go a Fluval 205 or 305 Canister on my 40 Gal? In the tank are;

1 x 2cm Common Pleco juvi

2 x 3cm Angel Fish

1 x 3cm bala shark (I know - but he'll be moving to our 6 footer in the next month)

2 x 2cm Bronze Corydoras

Cheers!

i would always go as large as you can. i was using a 205 on my 25 gallon tank until it broke.

Very true, thats what I was thinking. It broke? How long did you have it. I would hope they are pretty hardy units.

Also I've been offered a brand new Eheim 2213 canister for cut price. Between that and the 305 Fluval canister which would be best?

If it is possible, go as much GPH as possible, it will help ALOT!

IMO you can't beat Eheim for overall relaibility, but fluvals pump more water. The main issude I have with my fluvals (404/305) is the impeller cover tabs breaking. Be very careful when taking that piece off to clean the impeller well, the plastic tabs that hold it in place aren't very sturdy.
Overall though, I prefer aquaclear HOB filters unless a canister is necessary.
