Carbon and 2215

I had (2) 2215s running on my 75G freshwater tank and was not happy with the results. One filter was full of blue pads with one white pad and the other was full of bio balls. Now I've decided to setup (1) 2215 as it would be from the factory with the Eheim Substrate in it, 1 blue pad, 1 white pad and the EheimMech at the bottom. I bought some Black Diamond carbon and a medium sized bag, but have no room in the filter for it. Eheim told me I needed 3L of substrate per filter and it takes up most of the room in the filter. Now to my question. Being you only keep carbon in a filter for a couple weeks, I'm wondering if there is a way I an run it in my now spare 2215 for when I want to run carbon. Right now I have a full bag and some bioballs to take up room. The bag is to one side and bioballs on the other side for now. Is there some sort of round holder available to hold the media and force the water to flow through the media? I put them side by side hoping that the bioballs would cause the flow to bounce around and maybe contact the bag.

I may end up finding some PVC pipe or some plexi glass to make a diversion.

Hello Mudhog...I'm not familiar with the types of filters you have mentioned. Hopefully someone will help you out here shortly.
