What to use to block filter current?

I need to block the out put of the filter. It is too heavy for my betta. Turning the filter on a lower level is not an option. I know you can't use anything with detergent and soaps. What household items or just items could I use?

you can get a bag full of pillow stuffing that has zero additives and is 100% pure polyester and break off a big piece to put in where your media goes...you can even have some hanging out into the water surface to break the splash and current even more...

You mean the stuff that you put in the filter instead of buying filter bags? I do have that. I'll probably try that. Would the fish kind of pick at it if it was in the water, though?

Yes to Shawnie....or hook the bag over the outflow of the filter....the bag will diffuse the direction of the flow, it will not reduce filter flow efficiency and greatly add to your bacteria too!!! You can use filter floss or any fine filter material as it is already once filtered water. The return water will diffuse out in all directions from the bag.

Just find a nice small bag that wont look dumb....like a little plastic onion or garlic baggy thing

its like a big wad of filter floss....it isnt just small pieces that they eat.......and just having it hanging in the outtake will break the current ...

Good morning. If you'll go to the top left hand side of this screen and click on Fish Forum Home then scroll to the DIY section of the forum I'm sure you'll find several different methods of diffusing the out flow.

Great tips above as well!

heres a pic of one of mine..you can pull it out and lower it more towards the water surface for less current or push it up in for more current
