I'm building a bucket trickle filter for my 55g tank, and I'm ready for the biomedia to load into it so I can figure out how much room I have for other stuff in the bucket (filter floss, carbon when needed, etc). I basically need the cheapest effective biomedia for it. I can't seem to find the plastic pot scrubbers that most people like in any local stores, and I'm not going to buy a case of 200+ when I only need maybe 40. Is there something else inexpensive that would work well? (Crushed porous rock isn't out of the question, but it needs to be big enough to sit on an eggcrate shelf.)

Hello Leni. Have you tried the Dollar Store for the pot scrubbers?

Yeah. The local one doesn't have them. They only have the scotch-bright pads, which I read will work, but I'd need a lot more of them.
