I have been searching all over the web but can't find a defintive answer to this question: Does the length of the uptake tube affect how well a sponge filter works?
Consider my tank: I have a 75 gallon with a Marineland Emporer 400. I purchased two triangular sponge filters (3x3x3) with 6 inch uptakes. I hope to put one in each back corner under some gravel and power them with an air pump. They should help with filtration and serve as
QT filters in my hospital tank. I am hoping the six inch tubes are long enough because they are easily hidden behind plants. Does the 12 inches or so of water above the top of the airlift tube decrease the filter's effectiveness?
Thanks:
