can you tell me what sort of filter i have?

i have a elite stingray 15 with a black sponge inside and have 2 little containers on the two sides of the inside of my filter with these black and white little stones inside can you tell me what that is and if my filter is a external filter? and is it a power filter?

Hello. The black sponge is to contain your biological bacteria to keep the ammonia under control. Never rinse it under tap water. Only use water that you have siphoned from your tank, give it a gentle squeeze and put it back in. About once a month is best. The black stones are probably activated carbon that will help to keep bad smells out of the tank, helps to keep the water clear and will remove most medicines should you have to medicate your tank. The white stones (if they are like the black ones only white) that is for reducing ammonia and is called white carbon.
As for what the elite stingray 15 is, I've never used one so I don't know if it's a hang on back or internal filter. Wait for some more responses. Best of luck!
