Ok, several actually.
Currently I keep the recommended sequence of media in my 2213 Classic canister, except on top I put a carbon pad (generic, I cut to fit) and then a water-polishing pad (Fluval, I also cut to fit - Eheim stuff is pricey!) What I HAD been doing was swapping out those top two pads once a month, at which time I also would clean the hoses and rinse the other media in used tank water.
In the future, I think I shouldn't rinse the other media as often - I'm now thinking once every 4-6 months, tops. Same for the hoses - the algae's not growing back too quick (why's there algae THERE in the first place?) So, questions:
1) the Fluval water polishing pad is intended to be used for 4-6 HOURS, not a month. I've seen no ill effects (it's now been 3.5 weeks), water's crystal clear and readings normal. Continue, or not?
2) considering using filter floss instead of pad above. Pros? cons? how often to change?
3) other option - regular filter pad, cut to fit. How often to change that?
4) the carbon pad - should I change it more often?
5) is there any way at all with this filter to use LOOSE
activated carbon? (yes, I'd like to continue to use carbon in some form)
Sorry it's so long...appreciate any feedback!
