eheim 2217 canister filter problem

I have a 4 month old ehein 2217 canister and I am happy with its performance and how quiet it is but whenever I need to change a filter pad the clips will not secure properly and if I don't tape them down when I restart the canister the top comes up and it pours out water all over. Has anyone else had this problem? I was told at LFS where purchased to try bend the clips but it hasn't worked. This is rediculous that I need tape the clips on a new filter that is so expensive.

Are you using the recommended media sequence, or have you substituted anything? some 'fine' filter pads will expand when wet, and take up more room. If you have to squash the top down to close it, it's too full. If you don't have it too full, you should be able to close it just fine.

I am using the same media. I can close it no problem but the clips just pop back open as I close another. Not all but most. If I dont tape them down. the lid pops up a little and the water shoots out all over until I can close the intake and outtake valves.
